4-Points
Photography is owned and operated by Daryl and Sandy Koch
(pronounced “Cook”). A mission of this husband and wife team is to
teach young and old alike to look at the world with fresh eyes.
For years Daryl
attended the Experimental Aircraft Association Annual Fly-in (now
EAA Air Adventure) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and enjoyed taking
photographs of homebuilt and World War II military aircraft. These
photos were good “record shots” but not particularly artistic. As a
pilot he also tried to record the beauty of the earth below from his
unique perspective in the air, but his photographs seemed to fall a
little flat. It wasn’t until he met his wife Sandy that he became
more serious about photography, realizing the quality he could
achieve with dedication and perseverance, and the right
equipment. Now Daryl is equally at home photographing a white birch
forest in autumn as he is a P-51 Mustang aircraft. His passion for
the outdoors is evident in his choice of activities – sailing,
canoeing, fishing, working with his dog, and enjoying nature
walks…all with a camera close by.
Sandy has been
taking pictures since receiving her first camera at the age of
eleven. Recording family moments evolved to landscape and travel
photography, then recording the wonders of the natural world. As an
educator, a camera was always on her desk, and students learned the
importance of looking at the world in new ways. Photography became
part of writing activities, social studies and community awareness
exercises, and the recording of events in the lives of her
students.
Now retired from public school education, she still does
part-time work at the university level as well as in public
schools. Sandy has won a number of awards for her wildlife and
nature photography and does freelance writing and photography for
Life in the Middle of Michigan magazine, where she has had a
number of her photographs gracing the cover.
In order to stay
current on issues which affect their photography, and the education
of their audiences, Daryl and Sandy subscribe to numerous
publications, take courses and attend seminars, as well as maintain
professional memberships in organizations which encourage active
participation and knowledge of craft: the Aircraft Owners and Pilots
Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association, Society of
Children’s Book Writer’s and Illustrators, and the North American
Nature Photography Association.
