Just north of San Francisco there is a pocket of ridiculous beauty known as Mount Tamalpais. Winding roads snake through the hills and windswept trees, and eventually empty out into the small community of Stinson Beach. I had pretty much reached my bliss capacity up on the mountain, and decided to take a break down on the shore. It was an amazing day, with great weather, good waves, surfers, and birds - lots of birds.
As I reviewed my photographic catch from that day, this one initially made not much of an impression on me. I quickly gravitated toward ones that had more action, more grandeur, but left this one alone.
Now, I love editing photos nearly as much as taking them in the first place. It's a nerdy thing, for sure, sitting at the computer, adjusting tones and levels and getting all creative. I think it was lunch time, and as I took a break from my "day gig", I turned to my computer to go about tweaking some photos. That's when I noticed this one and gave it a....drum roll please.... SECOND GLANCE. It captured my eye, my imagination and my heart and is now among my favorites, which is why it is here.
I think the lesson here is that there are plenty of "second glance" opportunities in life. The key is to not beat one's self up for not noticing them initially. The point is to be aware that something or someone that you initially passed over may one day pop up again. And when it does, it might just be time for that second glance.
